Serif WebPlus was a Windows desktop program for building websites. You designed pages on your own machine and uploaded the result. It is discontinued.
Why it is different
WebPlus was not a content management system. There was no database and no admin area on the server. The design lived in a file on your computer, and publishing meant generating pages and sending them up by FTP.
That has one practical consequence: the site on the server is the output, not the source. Whoever holds the original project file holds the editable version. Without it you have finished pages and nothing behind them.
Current status
Serif stopped developing WebPlus and moved to its Affinity range, which does not include a website builder. There is no supported upgrade path, and no current version. Sites built with it still work, because they are just files, but nothing new is being released.
Moving away from it
- Content has to be lifted from the published pages, since there is no export
- Page structure often relies on absolute positioning, which does not translate to a modern template
- Text and images transfer; layout generally does not
- Check for the original project file first. It makes the job considerably easier
