PageCloud
PageCloud is a hosted drag-and-drop website builder from Ottawa, Canada, launched in 2015. It lets you place elements anywhere on a page, more like a design tool than a template system. Moving to WordPress means rebuilding the site; the content itself is the easy part.
How it models content
- Pages are free-form canvases. Elements are positioned freely rather than stacked in fixed sections
- Blog posts are managed in a built-in blog
- Apps add galleries, forms, maps, and embeds
- Store features handle products on plans that include them
- Custom code is allowed. You can add your own HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to pages
PageCloud and WordPress compared
| PageCloud | Closest in WordPress |
|---|---|
| Free-form pages | Pages built with the block editor or a page builder plugin |
| Blog | Posts |
| Apps | Plugins |
| Store | An e-commerce plugin such as WooCommerce |
| Custom code embeds | Custom HTML blocks or theme code |
The free-form layout is what makes moving slow. WordPress themes are built around flowing sections, so a layout that depends on exact positions needs redesigning, not copying.
What moving involves
- List every URL on the live site, including blog posts.
- Copy text and download images from each page. Save any custom code you added.
- Choose a WordPress theme or page builder that can get close to the layouts you need.
- Rebuild pages, recreate posts, and replace PageCloud apps with plugins.
- Add 301 redirects from the old URLs. See 301 redirects in WordPress.
- Switch DNS once the new site is checked.
For other hosted builders, see the Squarespace and Wix notes.
